Caregiver resources

A practical starting point for support

Use these steps to organize a request for help, prepare for a referral, and share care responsibilities. His Loving Arms Foundation serves caregivers, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and families in Brazoria County.

Ask for one specific task

Write down the task, the day, and how long it will take. Instead of “I need help,” try “Could you bring dinner Thursday?” or “Could you pick up groceries this weekend?” Give the person room to say what they can manage. A small, clear request is easier to answer.

Prepare for a resource referral

Before contacting a provider, note your ZIP code, the type of help needed, your preferred contact method, and any deadline. Ask about service area, eligibility, documents, waitlists, and costs. Keep the provider’s name and next step in one place. Avoid sending medical records or sensitive identification in an initial inquiry.

Plan a shared care week

List meals, appointments, errands, and check-ins. Agree on who handles each task and a backup contact. Ask the person receiving care about their preferences. Share only the information each helper needs, and review the plan when circumstances change.
